Thanks for writing this. Hope something happens in the not-too-distant future.

I think they talked about some kind of PDF version of this current site when the new EtoEto/Kuma thing launches.

WaniKani is definitely worth is price. Also, the website looks great visually (it actually helps as a motivation factor, I’d say) and the forum is very active :)

I agree. It is difficult to imagine why WaniKani provides a better way of learning kanji – before you try it, that is. I can say with confidence that I learned kanji much better/more quickly via WaniKani than I ever did via TextFugu and its Anki decks.

I strongly suggest that you try it out! :)

That’s weird. You are using Anki 2?

Here is how I import decks to Anki:

    - Start Anki
    - Click “File” –> “Import…”
    - Find the folder and the file, e.g. “sentences2.anki”
    - Click “Open”
    - Now you should have a new deck named “sentences2″ (or similar)
    - To merge with an already-made deck (say “sentences1″, you can use the “Browse” button and find the new deck. Mark all the cards (Ctrl+A) and hit “Change deck” and then “Move cards”

I hope it helps. If not, try to take a screenshot of the error message and show it here :)

I am at season 4 in TextFugu and level 2 in WaniKani (very soon 3!), and so far I have been using both. I started with TextFugu, then caught up with WaniKani a few weeks in. For me, it works pretty well. The mnemonics etc. are very similar, but it is so much more fun to review in WaniKani than Anki.

I suggest trying both at the same time and see if you like it or not. In my opinion, in can’t hurt to look at the same things multiple times :)

    Hello!

I am from (and living in) Denmark, hehe.

What are you working with? :)

Here is a quote from Koichi on WaniKani:

I’m going to take a break first. I’ve been working on the next revision of TF for a while now, and it’s quite different, and still has much to be done, so I’ll probably focus on that while I take my WK break. [posted 4 days ago at http://www.wanikani.com/chat/wanikani/3278/page/1

Okay, thanks. I assume a Japanese would understand it easily anyway. For future references, do you know about a place to look up grammar exceptions like that? (assuming it isn’t covered later in TextFugu) :)

I am going to hijack this thread for a small question, also regarding season 3:

It’s about an example of using verbs: http://www.textfugu.com/season-3/doing2/8-8/#top
    It says the following:

    スーパー を でましたか?
    Did you exit the supermarket?

You should know that the に particle is used in situations where movement or direction is involved. – http://www.textfugu.com/season-3/doing/7-5/#top

Why use the を (wo) particle when the sentence is about exiting (movement)? Shouldn’t it use the に (ni) particle instead? :)

    Hi there!

I found that buying a fancy notebook (Moleskine) for all my Japanese notes helped motivate me, since I can gradually see that I am making progress. Like you, I have been spending much of my Summer holiday on TextFugu (and WaniKani) :)

Just because there aren’t going to come more updates (?) doesn’t mean that the content right now isn’t worth your money. I suggest going through the material to see if you think it’s worth it :)

That’s sad to hear. Luckily, we have stuff like TextFugu and WaniKani :)
