I also think it’s admirable to continue learning for the sake of not giving up. I do think you would benefit from having a defined reason for learning Japanese as that would help with motivation! Is your wife interested in visiting Japan? Maybe you could plan a trip. Regardless, good luck with your studies!

Brandon, congrats on making your commitment to Japanese. Now get studying! ;)
Gigatron, sorry you had to postpone your trip. :( I’m really glad you were able to face your emergency without financial worries, though. Postponing the trip really stinks.
I have arrived in Seattle and am no longer homeless! ;) Living out of a hotel for a week is definitely an adventure…
Before we started the moving process, I was unable to catch up on my Anki backlog. Unfortunately I am now even further behind! Oh, well. At least I have motivation to learn again. On Friday, we visited the Bellevue location of Uwajimaya (http://www.uwajimaya.com/). I picked up a Japanese Seattle newspaper and am both encouraged that I could read parts of it and discouraged that I don’t have full understanding. Back to the studying!
Today so far – 15 minutes of Anki and a Jpod101 lesson. Still to do – read a blog post in native Japanese.
Hello! Congrats on your upcoming move! How exciting. :) You can learn a ton in a year.
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraSounds wonderful! Which aspect of art are you interested in? I’m a quilter and a knitter, plus I love photography.
Welcome! You just started a month ago and you’re already at Season 5? Impressive! How much experience have you had with Japanese before TextFugu?
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraBecky, congrats on the job placement! How exciting. :) :) Are you planning to find a job in Japan or be a housewife? My job was eliminated three years ago and I’ve been a housewife ever since. I love it!
Welcome to TextFugu and good luck with your studies!
~CassandraThat’s awesome, Mark. :D
Today – reviewed 16 minutes of Anki, read two blog posts in Japanese, and listened to an Intermediate Jpod101 lesson I downloaded ages ago.
Ryatt, welcome and good luck with your studies!

Kathryn,
Welcome! Glad to have you here. :) Where in Japan are you headed? I’d love to hear about your trip!
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraGigatron – why do you feel like you have to do things in a certain order? If the idea of kanji makes you cringe, ignore it for now. You can come back to it in a little while. Study some vocab and grammar, have fun with Japanese for awhile, and then add it in slowly. Don’t study what you dread. Have fun first and maybe kanji will be fun later.
Randomly encountered and perhaps learned? LOL
Today – 15 minutes in Anki (doing good at limiting myself) and 15 minutes reading a blog post in Japanese about knitting. I think tomorrow I’m going to add in some grammar studies.
Sheepy – Are you going to redo RTK or just pick up reviewing where you left off? I suspended all of my RTK cards because I was sick of seeing so many due without being willing to invest the time to catch up. But I kind of wonder if it would be worth starting all over and only doing a few minutes a day, spending the majority of my time on grammar and native materials… choices, choices. I would say there are no wrong choices as long as you’re studying, but I don’t believe that anymore. :P
Cole, welcome! I didn’t realize Latin was still being offered. I took a year of Latin in high school (1997) and really enjoyed it. It was a fun language and helped expose some of the craziness behind the English language. I had an awesome teacher and that probably helped. :)
Good luck with your Japanese studies!
