If you’re only missing one day of review and then you can’t remember it, it’s not in your long term memory yet. If you’re using Anki, fail the card and start over. You’ll get it eventually! :)
There actually is a fugu sticker. He’s cute!! Maybe Koichi will throw a contest or something again so more of the newbies can get one. :)
My fugu sticker is tucked (unpeeled) into the corner of a picture frame hanging above my desk. Very inspirational!
Hana – welcome and good luck with your studies! Glad to have you here. :)
Hi Nightangel – welcome! I admire you for discovering your dream and making it a reality. I know so few people who decided they wanted something specific and then actually accomplished it. Bravo for making it to Japan! That’s awesome.
Now that you’re in Japan, good luck with your studies! Make a commitment to TextFugu and it will definitely help you learn functional Japanese. I’ve learned a ton from the site and you just have to commit to it like you did with your move.
Best of luck to you!
~CassandraHi Codie – welcome! It sounds like you are extremely motivated in learning Japanese. Now just stick with it and work on attaining fluency!
How cool that you’ve been to Japan and fell in love with it. I’m jealous! :)
Good luck with your studies!
CassandraAndrew, welcome to the forums. I love cats too! Your exuberance is great. lol. It sounds like you have a good plan laid out. Keep moving forward and you’ll attain the fluency you’re after.
Good luck!
CassandraLOL. I’ve been enjoying the conversation but didn’t mean to derail the thread. I’m looking for something more for learning than a reference book but not something that just rehashes what’s in Textfugu. The only bookstore I’ve found with Japanese material is Barnes and Noble and their selection is dismal. My library has almost nothing. So I need to order something, just need to decide what. Maybe just order something, anything, as most anything would be useful in some way. Thanks for the input!
Michael, good point. But my production level still feels around season 2 of Textfugu whereas my comprehension level is much higher. I need to be practicing the grammar I’m learning that day, not just absorbing it. :P Off topic a tiny bit – I have an Amazon credit and want to order a textbook/grammar guide. What would you recommend if I can only get one of the list you mentioned? I know they are all good books but I only have $35!

Great idea! :)
My weakest area right now (other than speaking) is writing my own sentences. I comprehend a LOT more than I can produce. So my goal:
Post at least twice per week on Lang-8. At least.
Larisa, welcome! I’m so glad you don’t have to wait for school. You’ll probably progress much quicker through TextFugu than you would a traditional class anyways.
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraKumori! Welcome! Glad you found Textfugu and decided to join in the forum. ;)
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraDonna – how much time does all of that take you?
I have 14 goals on Anki and 11 or so of them have items due every day. It takes me under half an hour to get through all of the cards, averaging 250 a day. Some of them are new (the ultimate goals from TextFugu and a personal deck I created with vocab from the Japanese Pod 101 lessons). I study roughly an hour a day but your life sounds busier than mine. :)
Do you feel frustrated when you finish a study session? Content with your success? Are you feeling like you’re overdoing it NOW or like you might later? You can always cut back a bit later if necessary without dropping Japanese altogether. I have periods where I study 90 minutes/day and other times where all I do is keep up with Anki to avoid the piled up reviews.
Michael, your class sounds awesome! I hope you learn a ton.
And share some of it with us. ;)

Ushchan – welcome! How cool that you’ve already been to Japan. :) It’s great that you have friends to practice with! It sounds like that combined with TextFugu will help you well along your way to fluency.
Good luck with your studies!
