Congrats!! Keep up the great work!
I use the romaji method and it hasn’t interfered with learning kana at all. Just make sure you practice kana by more than one study method and you should be fine: Anki, http://www.realkana.com/, or http://www.csus.edu/indiv/s/sheaa/projects/genki/hiragana-timer.html are all good resources.
Good luck!
Since you know about the opportunity in advance, I bet you could come up with a bunch of scholarships and grants and such. Good luck! I hope you can go!
Cool! A year abroad would be awesome. Are you going to go for it?
Success! I kept up with my Anki reviews every day while I was in San Diego and even managed to listen to a couple of podcasts. Tomorrow I’m diving back into the grammar lessons. Fun stuff.
How is everyone else progressing?
Howdy! Welcome and good luck with your studying. :) Make sure to post if you need help with anything specifically!

Vladimir – welcome! I hope you find Japanese everything you’re looking for. :)
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraHeather – welcome! I have hobby ADHD as well. ;) I stick with something for awhile and then find something else to learn. Surprisingly, Japanese made me stick with it. Hopefully you’ll experience the same thing!
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraDerek – welcome! You have a great start with hiragana and katakana. You’ll quickly start picking up kanji!
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraArnold – welcome! I’ve never seen anyone list karaoke as a reason to learn Japanese. How unique!
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraHi Jack! Welcome to the forums. :) Traveling around Japan sounds like fun. Where do you want to visit the most?
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraHatt0ri – Congrats on finishing RTK!! That’s awesome! What a massive achievement. :D
I can tell it’s still summer around here… I just got home from spending time with my family in southern Arizona. And my SIL invited me to go to San Diego with her and her sister (who is visiting from England). Well, I’m not one to pass up on a trip to San Diego. Ha. We leave in 45 minutes.
I’ve been keeping up with Anki reviews (yay!) and listening to podcasts while traveling the past two weeks. Surprisingly, I’ve found I can use my laptop while in the car and not get carsick. Yay! Lots of studying on the way to and from San Diego!
See you guys when I get back (Sunday). ;) Keep up the great studying!
Michael, that’s an awesome idea about the Core6k goal and a sentence deck. I had forgotten all about the Core goals as well. Hmm… Keep us updated?
Weber – At least you’re staying up to date with Anki! That’s good progress right there. Do you listen to Japanese podcasts?
I’m still at my brother’s house but I’ve done a good job at keeping up with Anki. I am up to date with all Anki reviews. Woohoo! And I’ve even listened to a couple short jpod lessons. Tomorrow I return home so I’ll pick up the pace on the studying. I need to catch up to Koichi on Season 3.
Jessie, welcome to the forums! I’m glad you’re finally getting into consistent study. Good luck with everything!
