LOL. Is there a quality explanation of RTK without all the cuss words? :P If someone has a write up, I’ll post a thread and sticky it.
Armando – RTK is Remembering the Kanji by Heisig. There are a couple of threads on the forum devoted to that study resource. :) Also, do you have iTunes? I listen to the toyota metapolis podcast and really enjoy it.
Today’s studying – Reviewed all Anki cards that were due. Finished up the “I want” lesson. Quite a simple concept once you practice it a few times. Started on the Adverbs lesson. Tomorrow I’ll have to un-suspend the adverbs from the Season2 master Anki list and start learning those, plus continue the Adverbs lesson.
Hi Stephanie,
Welcome to the forums and good luck with your studies! I wish you much success. :D
~Cassandra
Armando – Like the others, I think it’s awesome that you’re learning a third language at your age. If you keep it up, you’ll be fluent by the time you’re finished with school!
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraHi Ryan! Welcome to the forums. :)
How cool that you get to learn Japanese with your girlfriend. I too want to travel to Japan and not be restricted to the normal touristy spots.
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraYou go, Kaona! ;)
Today I worked on the i-adjectives. Reviewed everything in Anki. Read the TextFugu lesson. Read the Tae-Kim lesson. Listened to a jpod101 podcast. All on i-adjectives. All I have left is TextFugu’s final i-adjective worksheet.
Next on the list – “I want…!”
I hope everyone else is doing well on their studying!
Jordan, welcome! I think it’s cool that you wrote your intro in Japanese. Most people don’t feel confident enough to try. ;)
Are you taking college classes, private, or…? How do you like that method of learning?
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraHi Lucy! Welcome to the forums. :)
So you’ve been to Japan already? Where did you go and how did you like it?
A polyglot, eh? Me too. ;) What languages do you want to learn?
Good luck with your studies!
~CassandraLemur – My additions depended on how much time I had that day. I think the most I ever added at once was 55 cards. I just didn’t want to deal with the massive buildup in the SRS. Don’t forget that the faster you complete the RTK book, the more reviews you’ll have after it. I’m buried right now because I completed the last 1/3 so quickly. If you’re ok spending several hours a day just working through due cards, then by all means keep adding them quickly. But if you want to keep reviews down, it’s not a good idea to add so many new cards per day.
Emma – I used a physical copy of the book when I went through RTK. But I don’t see why a Kindle version wouldn’t work as well, so long as you are comfortable with e-books. Personally, I prefer a book in hand but that’s just personal preference. I never wrote in my RTK book, so…
That sounds really cool! Thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks Michael! I do plan on starting on those Ultimate lists soon. I’m glad you’re really seeing the benefits.
Swoosherz – 2,000 reviews in one day?? That is intense! I think the most I’ve done is 450 or so. Good luck with all of your studying!
Missing – How fun, trying to read a Japanese novel! Good luck!
Today I reviewed tons of cards in Anki – RTK, some random vocab, na-adjectives, and i-adjectives. Then I started going through the i-adjective conjugation lesson on Textfugu. I’m not sure if I’ll spend one more day or two on i-adjectives. I want to make sure my understanding of each lesson is solid before moving on to the next but I also don’t want to drag my feet.
Here’s to a ton studying! Let’s all make leaps and bounds in our Japanese language understanding this week. :D
Hi Eddie, welcome to the forum! Glad to have you here. :) Good luck with your studies!
I haven’t started using an ipod while running but Pimsleur is an excellent idea. I’ll have to load that up on my ipod and try it out. Sorry you were getting funny looks!
Today – Finished up with the na-adjectives. I probably over-studied it but I wanted to make sure I understood the concept completely. I finished learning the vocab via Anki, read the Textfugu lesson, read the na-adjective lesson on TaeKim’s, and listened to a jpod101 lesson that covered na-adjectives.
Tomorrow – Working on the i-adjectives!
Thanks for the website suggestions and the book titles! On Just Bento, the most recent recipe (Tofu and vegetable piccata) sounds really good! mmmm… now I’m starting to get hungry.
Making tofu sounds like a lot of fun. We eat quite a bit of tofu so I think I might try that out as well. :)
Do you have any new recipes planned this week? I think I’m going to tackle onigiri as my new recipe of the week.
Kaona – I’m sure your sushi doesn’t look that bad! ;)
Emma,
What other countries have you visited/lived in? I love traveling and experiencing different cultures but I’ve only been out of the US once and that was to Mexico. I really need to apply for a passport!
Good luck with your marathon training! Good luck with your 10k as well! I’m doing a 5k on June 12th and am really excited about that.
I started studying in Jan/Feb 2010. I should be farther in my studies but self-study is hard because there’s not much structure. I have a bad habit of floundering when I’m not working on something specific. :) I study almost every day and pretty consistently but have to really push myself to study beyond my comfort level.
My husband actually got me started on Japanese. When we got married, he watched a lot of anime and I didn’t see what the fuss was about. I watched a few shows and enjoyed some of them. Then we started watching j-doramas and I enjoyed that more. Hubby talks about visiting Japan and possibly working there for a couple years. Well, if we’re going to Japan, I want to be able to communicate with people. So that got me started and then I fell in love with the language and culture for myself! Now I study more than my husband does. ;)
Hope you’re having an awesome day!
