Tyler – I hear ya on Anki reviews. Those definitely feel like work. ;) I think it’s awesome that you’re sticking with Japanese even if you have challenges with it. Good luck with all of your studies!!
Hi Kyle – welcome and good luck with your studies!

これ は だれ の 川 ですか
The の is possessive of だれ, so it would be the equivalent of “whose.”
This is (これ は) whose (だれ の) river?
In more natural English – Whose river is this?
I just wanted to add a quick note to this thread since I was complaining about not knowing how many cards are due the next day.
Just in case anyone else missed that feature… there is an icon in the top right corner that looks like a graph. Click on it. For the options at the bottom of the graphs, change deck –> collection. It will tell you how many cards are due tomorrow.
Hi Philippe, welcome to the forums! Your Ph.D. sounds really interesting. Good luck with that and your Japanese studies!

Hello and welcome! Good luck with your first serious effort to learn. :)
Evan – Thanks for the heads up! I didn’t realize we could buy Japanese games for the DS. I love Animal Crossing and now I’m going to have to order it. :)

Kris – welcome! What study materials have you been using so far?
Good luck with your studies!
CassandraHi Sterling – with enough study, I’m sure you can have a basic conversation in six month. :) Good luck with your goal!

Hi Maggie – welcome! Good luck with your studies and with your interview!

Hi Rose – welcome! I too want to be able to read Japanese knitting patterns! I am also a quilter and would love to learn some Japanese patchwork.
Welcome and good luck with your studies!

Hey Adam, welcome! Good luck with the military! Hopefully you’ll get a good tour instead of being stationed in a war zone. :) My brother has spent three years in Iraq and we’re glad he’s in the US (for now, at least). Good luck with your studies!

Helen – welcome! I agree that it’s a bummer to finish school and lose that opportunity to learn. I would have attended college forever and racked up a number of degrees if I could have afforded it. ;) That’s part of the reason I started learning Japanese as well, the desire to keep learning something new.
Good luck with your studies!
