Thanks for being so re-assuring and helpful. No idea how this place would run without you actually. Well, I know there are a few things on page one about this, but if you can think of any last-minute aid I should consider, feel free to let me know. :)
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. The studying part isn’t so bad, but the not exactly knowing what I’m studying for is daunting, especially considering how many people fail the test. It gives me the heebie jeebies. I suppose everyone can relate, though. One month to go and I’m acting like a headless chicken.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.Let me hijack this for a moment.
Has anyone ever “leaked” a full test? Hoping to be prepared is one thing, knowing what to expect is another. You just can’t get a straight answer out of people what you’ll need when it comes to grammar and I don’t think the sample questions reveal the full scope of the thing.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.I assumed they are fairly well known. It’s a series of (very expensive) books, made for Japanese beginners, but so far only seems to be available for iPad. I was hoping that someone may know a bit more, maybe a way to get them to work on an iPhone/Pod somehow. I assume that this means nay. They seem like they would be good exercise.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.Wasn’t there a free and legal version of old Genki floating around somewhere? I think we talked about that some time ago, I think I even had a butchers. Can’t remember though.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.Maybe Wani could help, if vocab is an issue. I will (possibly) soon be able to have a direct-comparison between Textfugu and Genki 1 too, since I think about switching. I had a huge pause after I lost all my Anki-stuff and I’m always unsure about the release of the new TF version, which annoys me greatly. I know, this went a bit OT just now, but I felt like being a pushy brat.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.I was hoping listening wouldn’t come in before N4. Finding stuff to read for this level is hard enough. xD
Good to know that the search is broken. That’s important information.
Thanks, mate!Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.Had non of these in Wani yet, but from the looks of it I may encounter 返 and 変 soon. It would be nice if the decks would use kanji more often or if Textfugu worked with Wani rather than Anki, but it’s not dramatic. :) Thanks for pointing it out.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. That’s more of a resounding “eeh~” then. Too bad, but then I’ve managed to get here without it.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.I remembered that you’ve complained about people not getting Ø right, so I just assumed it, which is a but stupid thinking of it. Well, if you have an iPhone or something like that you could maybe use the travel time to study Japanese on your commute. On the other hand: Moving there will shorten your travel time, which may also free you up get an hour or two of practice per day. Either way, I hope you enjoy university life. :)
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.I though you are from Norway. I’m from a neighboring country.
Sensei’s advice is valid to a certain degree. USUALLY people will congratulate you if you tell them that you want to learn something, which is indeed praise for good intentions aka for nothing. I can see why he said not to tell anyone, but I find that this becomes invalid once I’m actually already in the middle of it. I’m a blabbermouth anyways, I wouldn’t be able to keep it secret for longer than a week either way. xD
Praise for good intentions is quite common in society, and I’m not happy with that, I’d much rather people motivate me and tell me to go ahead and do it, rather than praising me for telling them my intentions. Praise should be reserved for achieved milestones.
I remain with my statement: I wouldn’t tell your dad and just get on with it – unless you know you can take the rejection and really want him to know. I’d still say it’s avoidable pain, but in the end it’s your decision.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.Nice story though. Sensei always seemed like a nice guy. I hope you get your Acc back. And don’t forget: Try saving a bit, ideally you should always have at least twice your monthly salary on your bank account. The US really needs to get more social. Helping each other out a bit is not communism, and nobody profits from having people being homeless.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. What reason do they have to do that? What’s their argument? This seems so fucking stupid. Why would they laugh at someone for educating themselves? Makes my head hurt dude.
Well, I recommend you stay on track, stick with your friends and don’t tell your parents – they don’t need to know everything.

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.Odd thing is: I still have my PR belt buckle from when I was little, but I remember sod all about PR. I thought I do a little update: Looking back at it, it feels a bit unfair to blame TF for the issues, kanji are simply on a different level considering there are multiple readings attached to them etc, and I think I went in with false expectations. I RACED through the radicals and expected it to go on like that, but I kind of crashed into a wall there, but I will remain with my statement that most of the mnemonics simply don’t work for me, but that’s not necessarily a problem if it works for others.
I’ve tried Wani just 5 minutes ago, only doing the first 5 mnemonic (because it’s really late) to get a feel what Wani is about. I can see how Wani may be a lot more helpful than working with Anki or only the TF resources. Typing is scary though, because my spelling simply is sub-standard (FF spellchecker ftw), I don’t think it’s a problem but it’s a bit frightening.
Well, after this hurtful crash with reality it’s now time to make some realistic schedules, also considering that I also got other things to do.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. The small ones just do things a bit different. It’s altogether a bit odd when compared to how things work here. As it has been said: A small っ simply is what the next consonant would be. Imagine writing bookcase, booっcase instead. I know K and C are not the same but i hope it makes a bit more sense now.
