The lack of iPad apps for Japanese is a little disappointing I think. (on the store I mean)

I think it’s better to do all of the ultimate decks before the content for the seasons. You can finish them all within 2 weeks for sure. I started doing 30 words a day because I just wanted to finish them.

@Joel Thanks! I’m going to have a shock when I get there because looking at photos it appears far easier than it will actually be. I’m going to haul my tripod up there and try to get some exceptional shots. :)

I forgot which order now, but I believe it’s something like on’yomi for 2+ kanji in a word and kun’yomi for a single kanji with kana at the end. Exceptions all over the place.

@isocracy well if you do meet a native Japanese girl just make sure if you are interested it’s for genuine reasons, if you can ask yourself if you’d still be interested regardless of nationality then it’s all good :) if you’ve ever read the gaijinpot forums there’s some vile people out there when it comes to hunting Japanese girls down, lots of extremely shady people in that place.

Well recently I finished Yakuza 2 (or should I say Like a Dragon) and I’m currently on 3 with 4 on the way to me, so that’s my main ‘practice’ right now. There seems to be a ton of slang being used but I can pick apart a lot of the polite conversation at least. Otherwise I usually leave Japanese radio on the in the background, preferably talk radio. TuneIn is really good for that stuff.

I also get free practice in the sense that I see my girlfriend and her sister often, I pick up a lot from them, mostly just when to use certain phrases/words which is really helpful.

I should be in Tokyo for 2-4 weeks in the summer, we are also heading to one of the nearby islands for a few days. Going up Mt. Fuji too!

There’s around 7 universities in England that offer Japanese Studies and/or Japanese Language, there’s a few more that do some sort of Japanese Economics course too. The selection is really poor compared to something like Computer Science, kind of annoying.

My girlfriend studies English at SOAS which is where I might go for Japanese but I’m not too sure yet, there’s only that place and one other university that’s convenient for me to commute to. @_@

I’ve heard it said like that IRL and by some female characters in the Yakuza games. (though I doubt this deserves any more credit than anime)

I’ve noticed women sometimes add a slight “oo/u” sound to it but it’s rare.

Exactly! I don’t think there’s any shame in saying you are fluent but still making mistakes from time to time, that is always going to happen. Even in your native language. :P

Depends what your definition of fluent is. I consider that when you can speak about any topic with a high level of understanding and competence, that is definitely achievable.

I don’t really use stories from the book or the site, I just think of some sort of association between the elements and that works pretty well while keeping it really short and easier to remember. The annoying ones are the few that have 4+ primitives. @___@

and yep that book is boring as sin. HATE IT. I would have finished it last month but because of the sudden acquisition of a social life I’m only just getting to the last few lessons now. Can’t wait to jump back into grammar and stuff that makes me feel like I’m progressing again.

Anki is free on Android. I was going to buy Anki for my iPad until I saw the price…jesus.
Read the Kanji is probably the best website I reckon. I haven’t found any that rival it, but of course it does come at a cost. (N5 is free at least)
I like Evernote a lot and use iBooks for PDF reading on my iPad, the new screen makes reading PDFs really nice. I’m not a big fan of apps for the most part since on an iPad it’s obviously easy to just browse full blown websites, on my phone I only use Anki for Japanese right now.
