Seems mostly fine to me, as it says “more a year, month or even day” as it says “even day” it’s not saying it will be updated daily or anything just that hey tomorrow some new content could be on the site. So I take no issue with that part.
Although constant updates is a bit of a stretch. >:)

I’m pretty surprised at the negativity, it’s not like language lessons are something that can whipped up really quickly, then of course there’s the Anki decks which are pretty time consuming to make if you have to record sound for them too. Japanese isn’t even Koichi’s native language, it’s easy to look in from the outside and criticise, but could some of you pump out English lessons frequently (and run a decent website while making Anki decks & PDFs) on your own, really? Let alone doing it for a language you yourself are still getting better at. (correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Koichi makes frequent use of Lang-8)
It’s not like the Internet is short of resources to learn Japanese. I guess because I use multiple other sources a new lesson not showing up every week on here isn’t affecting me that much.
If it was 3-4 people working on the site, then yeah I’d be pretty concerned about the content, but it’s not, it’s a single person, who I shall say again for emphasis, is not a native Japanese speaker.

Don’t worry too much! It really does depend person to person, if you don’t make the ‘hiss’ sound then it’s not going to make you seem weird or incomprehensible, talking about ひ not ふ of course!

Yeah kanji is great, it’s horrible reading big blocks of hiragana!

Another 30 words gotten through today, 150 cards on Read the Kanji, Lang-8 entry and a bit of reading from the sentence patterns book.
I like this 30 word a day pacing, makes the ultimate lists seem like no biggie.
If the JLPT ‘intermediate’ level is really is the comparison you want to use then maybe we should accept that TextFugu is not going to be teaching or preparing people for JLPT2 level content anytime soon, there’s plenty of other sources that have the JLPT ordering different, though. (they’re not that old either; they include the newer JLPT5)
I don’t think missingno has done JLPT but it’s still fair to say he’s at an intermediate level, as are a select few others here. That’s why I think it’s silly to use JLPT as the method of telling who is intermediate and who is not.
I’ll leave it at that now, no real need to expand further.
My original point was just that JLPT3 isn’t what defines intermediate, and I still stand by it. :P
There is no such thing as an “official intermediate” though.
JLPT3 isn’t even considered intermediate, it’s officially ranked as “upper intermediate” with JLPT4 as “lower intermediate”
So the middle ground (intermediate) is totally subjective here.Yeah I saw that, and it’s what I was responding to.
One person can say something is intermediate and another can say it’s not, or they can say it’s actually advanced. It’s a subjective thing. Yes JLPT is the official testing method by the Japanese government but it doesn’t mean you have to take JLPT3 to be considered intermediate or higher, it’s really that simple. One single test never defines your ability.
As a formality some employers will require you to have taken JLPT level X, but if you show up speaking conversational or better Japanese they’re not going to claim you are at a beginner level because you don’t have one qualification, are they? This is my point.

I wouldn’t say JLPT3 is what allows you to call yourself intermediate as somebody else could come along and take the stance that JLPT3 is easy. I think it’s a really subjective thing.
@Michael Well I am just saying that I don’t know if he does or doesn’t. I would expect things to pick up a bit now that all those decks have been re-done.
Yeah this confused me at one point too, the kanji vocab stuff moves at a pretty slow pace and there’s not too much of it, you can probably get away with learning maybe 10-20 of them a week, so just check the tags accordingly. (you will want to adjust that to match your pacing, though)
I stopped using the kanji vocab on here in favour of Read the Kanji because it gives example sentences in addition and there’s a ton more vocab.
It sounds like a bit of a hiss if you exhale while saying ひ really fast, I think that is what you are hearing, but really it is pronounced a straight ひ, matters of the lungs be damned.
The frequency of updates (or claimed lack of) doesn’t really bother me. It’s primarily one person working on the site, designing the Anki decks along with voice clips, moving everything over to the new season format, going through and fixing the many links and then thinking up new lessons is quite a lot to do, especially if Koichi doesn’t work 5 days a week 9 hours a day.
Hmm well I use TextFugu but haven’t done any lessons in a few weeks, just going over the ultimate lists, reading Japanese Sentence Patterns for Effective Communication (Book), I post stuff on Lang-8 fairly often and I speak to Japanese people every day so I get to ask questions about how things work quite a lot.
Then it’s just keeping up with Anki reviews every day and I do 100 cards on Read the Kanji daily too. I listen to Japanese radio sometimes as well, mostly for the chat shows, and despite not being big on anime, one of my favourite games has had an anime adaption so I’ve been watching that weekly. (Persona 4)
I’m not sure if you meant overall or just for JLPT, but what I’ve been doing so far hasn’t steered me wrong on the sample questions at least.
